One of the many common services we provide is to provide a timber appraisal for landowners or potential woodland buyers. Whether it is for tax purposes, asset management, or plain curiosity, it is a good idea to know the value and breakdown of different timber stands.
Appraisal methods and goals
- Perform a timber cruise to determine type, volume, stocking, and product breakdown of existing timber
- Cruises provide a representative sample of the entire stand and are usually performed on a 10%, 20%, or 100% scale depending on the extent of information that is required to reach a specified goal
- Using the data from the timber cruise we can then estimate the total value of timber on the tract
- Timber-type maps can be prepared using the cruise information as well as GIS and aerial photography images
